The mission
The Connect is a one-of-a-kind bar, lounge, nightclub, and venue nestled right in the heart of Jamaica, NY, and are the only local hotspot in the borough. We connect to Jamaica's history, people, and community. In fact, back in 1937 this very location was once a restaurant/bar.
The neighborhood of Jamaica in Queens, New York, has a rich and layered history that traces back to its origins as a settlement among Native American tribes. The area was originally inhabited by the Jameco, or Yamecah, from whom the name "Jamaica" is derived.
Jamaica developed into a bustling village and transportation hub, thanks to the construction of the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) in 1836 - one of the first NYC rail lines. The LIRR's Jamaica Station became a critical junction, connecting Long Island to Manhattan and other parts of New York. This infrastructure spurred economic growth and urbanization, transforming Jamaica into a key commercial center in Queens.
In the mid-20th century, the neighborhood experienced another demographic shift as African Americans and Caribbean immigrants moved in, shaping Jamaica into a vibrant, multicultural community. Today, Jamaica is one of the most diverse neighborhoods in Queens, reflecting the borough's reputation as one of the most ethnically varied places in the world.
The Connect Bar continues to evolve with the neighborhood, balancing its historical roots with its dynamic, modern identity. Come spend some time with us today to experience our unique blend of past and present.
